Bios
Mr. Butter's career of more than 39 years includes appointments as President of NTI (a Nortel Networks US subsidiary,) Chairman of the Board of AGCS (a joint venture of GTE and AT&T,) President of Lucent Technologies’ Global Public Networks, and President of Lucent’s North American Marketing, Sales and Services. While at Lucent, he formed the Optical Networking Group and became its first President. Since retiring from Lucent in 2000, Mr. Butters has remained active in the technology sector serving as a board member and advisor to several innovative companies. Mr. Butters is a Fellow of the International Engineering Consortium. Dr. Kim is currently the President of Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories. He was previously CEO and Chairman of Yurie Systems, which was purchased by Lucent in 1998 for $1 billion. He has also served as President of Lucent's Optical Networking Group and as a faculty member at the University of Maryland. Dr. Kim currently sits on numerous
corporate, university, and non-profit boards including: Johns Hopkins
University, University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Stanford
Institute for International Studies, IN-Q-TEL, Cibernet, Global Internet
Ventures (GIV), and MTI Micro Fuel Cells Inc. Dr. Kim also sits on the
NASDAQ Listing and Hearing Review Council, an advisory board for the
NASDAQ market. Rajat Kumar Gupta is the former managing director of McKinsey & Company worldwide. He joined the firm's New York office in 1973, assumed leadership of its Scandinavian offices in 1981, and joined the Chicago office in 1987. He assumed the role of office manager there in 1989, was elected managing director of the firm in 1994 and re-elected twice, once in 1997 and again in 2000. Since joining the firm, Gupta has directed a number of projects aimed at helping companies develop new product/market strategies and reorganize for improved effectiveness and operations capabilities. He has a broad range of consulting experience with a variety of industries, including telecommunications, energy, and consumer goods. Gupta is Chairman of the Board of the Indian School of Business and recently was nominated co-chairman of the United Nations Association of the USA. He is associated with many other professional and business affiliations, including: Private Sector Representative to the Board of the Global Fund for Aids, Malaria, and Tuberculosis; Chairman of the Board of Associates of the Harvard Business School; and Dean's Advisory Council, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management. Gupta holds a bachelor of technology degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Dan Stanzione is President Emeritus, Bell Laboratories and Special Advisor to the Chairman, Lucent Technologies. Prior to this he was Chief Operating Officer of Lucent Technologies where he had oversight responsibility of technology, product architecture, and manufacturing decisions. He also was the President of Bell Laboratories, responsible for all R&D in Lucent Technologies, a position he held from January 1995 to October 1999.Throughout his earlier career at Bell Laboratories, Dr. Stanzione has played an important role in the development of signal processing and software technologies and in recent years has held a number of business positions in which he had responsibility for different business units. His early work was in Bell Laboratories with teams working on the first microprocessors and digital signal processors. During the 1980s he held a variety of positions in the planning and development of large software systems for business operations in telecommunications companies. In the late 1980s and in the early 1990s, Dr. Stanzione was the President of business units within AT&T that had global responsibility for switching, transmission, and large software system products for use within networks around the world. He became part of the new Lucent Technologies, Inc., as part of the AT&T restructuring in 1996, and was President of Lucent's Network Systems unit during Lucent's early years. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1967, a Master of Science degree in Environmental Systems Engineering in 1968, and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1972, all from Clemson University. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, and he has published papers on computer simulation, microprocessors, and software design.
